Weather in the Maldives is tropical, with two significant seasons. The north-east monsoon, from December to March, is light and fairly dry. The south-west monsoon, from June to November, occasionally brings brief downpours followed by sunshine. The temperature ranges from mid-20s to mid-30s and is highest in April and May. The currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa, divided into 100 Larees.
